SRB Technology

How does a split bearing work, how is it made, and what is the technology behind it?

Split bearings have been commercially available for around 50 years, used primarily in heavy applications in arduous conditions where frequent bearing inspection and maintenance are required. The bearing itself, including the inner and outer races, the cage, the housing and the mounting all separate, right down to the shaft, allowing close inspection and easy replacement, without the use of heating and pulling apparatus, and without having to move the shaft.

Revolvo started with "a clean sheet of paper" when it designed the SRB split roller bearing range. This meant that new technology. This is exactly what Revolvo has done in just about every area of its product specification, including materials, mechanical design, sealing, and maintenance features.

The majority of the components are cast, forged and machines as individual items, other than the inner and outer races, they are ground and then cut, in particular way that ensures when the two pieces are reunited, the bearing race surfaces match perfectly, an assembled SRB has close to the same performance capability as a solid bearing of a comparable capacity rating.
